Okay so, Pocky and I agree that our site-wide plot might be best told to people ahead of time so you can prepare and make adjustments to how you think Rise Up is going to work.
So, here is our idea for how the future of this game will go:
We intend, at first, to have some fun times in Igen, allow some of the Lost to settle, get the initial "wtf people in the desert" thing sort of started and dealt with. And, once we've had a little bit of stability, the plot is going to kick in.
Some of the gold and bronzeriders of Pern feel that they've been robbed of their rightful place in the Pernese hierarchy, and they want to take it back. They don't want to change all of Pern – they just want a place for themselves. But you can't be queens and kings over an empty kingdom, and since no one is going to volunteer to have their power removed, they have to take back what's theirs.
The place they've chosen, after Turns of talking and planning, is Ista Weyr.
Now, if we get enough people, we fully intend to open up play in Ista Weyr which will include traditional Weyrwomen and Weyrleaders essentially holding the rest of the Weyr captive. People who attempt to escape will be brought back. People who resist will be put in their place. And the people lost in the desert? Are as fair game to Ista as they are to Igen (Of course, we'll be giving players a choice.)
How is this going to affect Igen?
Igen Weyr is the closest to Ista, and when the initial exodus from Ista happens – as I'm sure it would, and there's nothing that could be done about it – Ista will need a way to refill their ranks and gather supplies when Pern cuts them off. This could mean anything from Craftspeople/Weyrling/Wherling kidnappings to double agents to being attacked for/deprived of supplies the same as Ista.
What does this mean for the players?
Well, for one, we're going to need people populating Ista as well as Igen. We need several gold and bronzeriders from all over Pern who are willing to put a plan in motion to take over Ista Weyr, and we need people who will be sort of under this new-old-way of thinking and be willing to play the game of the Weyrleaders until it's time for them to rise up and rebel.
How the game goes after Ista is taken over is entirely up to you, the players. Please keep in mind that the new rulers of Ista aren't going to be playing nice, but we will keep all triggery material away from the game. There will be no plots allowed that include rape, forced catches in Flights or Runs, forced neutering of green, blue, or brown clutchers, and no gold or bronze that wants to be a fighter will be denied and turned into a clutcher. Our bad guys are bad people, but triggery material will not be part of our setting. If you can think of anything on that list that we've missed, please tell us, and keep in mind that all kidnapping plots and other things will be approved with the people involved before they happen.
Is Igen going to fight back?
This is, again, entirely up to the players. I know for a fact that my characters will want to help those at Ista who are being held against their will, but this may not be the consensus that's reached upon in IC interactions, and that's ok. If you want to be a rogue agent, too, then fine! Just keep us updated so we can keep OOC track of what all is going on in our site.
If you have any questions or ideas, feel free to post them here for discussion. I, for one, am really excited, and would love to talk about it!
