With all the changes we've made to Pern and the inclusion of panfandom characters, we thought it might be for the best to have a brief OOC list you can scan through for easy information as to what's new to the setting you're in.
1. Dragons, whers, and firelizards can now be either male or female regardless of color, and any color of female has the ability to clutch. 97% of females are going to know instinctively whether they are meant to be clutchers or fighters. Greens and blues have the smallest clutches, usually between two and seven eggs, and usually only clutch greens, blues and browns. Browns and bronzes tend to be a bit bigger, usually between ten and fifteen, and they can clutch anything except a gold. Golds can lay up to thirty eggs at a time, but clutches of that size have become a lot less common since females of other colors have been allowed to clutch, but they are also the only ones who can produce a gold hatchling. ICly, it is unlikely that we will ever have a Hatching with more than ten dragons being given out to player characters.
2. Golds and bronzes are no longer the top dogs. Riding a "shiny" dragon no longer gives the 'rider a guaranteed place of leadership or privileges. They may get larger weyrs because they need the space, but they are treated the same as everyone else. And that is because...
3. ...Weyrs are no longer run by Weyrwomen and Weyrleaders. Instead, every Weyr has an elected council made up of Weyrfolk, craftspeople, wherhandlers, and dragonriders who all represent the interests of their respective groups. Holds elect their Lord or Lady Holders who must then answer to the council of the Weyr they are beholden to. Anyone can be elected, but there is a five Turn cap to prevent people from remaining in office for too long.
4. In the event of planet-wide problems, a Greater Weyr Council is called. The Weyr councils elect their chosen officials to represent their Weyr and Holds, and a Master from the crafthalls is chosen to represent them. Greater Weyr Councils are a regular occurrence to settle inter-Weyr or Weyr and crafthall disputes.
5. AIVAS didn't happen. The exploration of Pern went into full swing during the 9th Pass, but when they found the crash site, the technology had no life. The lifeless hunk of metal is generally treated as a haunted, cursed place. The alien mechanics tend to frighten, and it is a well-known site for older Weyrlings to visit and try and scare each other.
1. An irregularly high number of sandstorms in the Igen desert have been leaving behind people who claim to be not from this world. All panfandom characters arrive into the world with the clothes on their back and their memories intact, but any special powers they might have once possessed are gone. They will be found by Igen dragonriders and be brought back to the Weyr. If you want to skip the "We're Not In Kansas Anymore" thread in the desert, talk to the mod who approved your character through PMs.
2. The Lost people – ie panfandom characters – are then free to go on and do as they like! Apply to become a dragon or wher candidate, a craftsperson, find your place in Igen, or don't. But beware. Not everyone may view the sudden arrival of strange peoples as a good thing.
