R'sam
Age: 37
Gender: male
Rank: Weyrharper
Appearance: R'sam is tall and thin and never seems to gain much weight, no matter how much herdbeast stew the Headwoman feeds him. With a height of about six feet, he is lanky, but he does know how to carry himself. R'sam's appearance is simply refined. He is always well dressed and neatly groomed, and he moves gracefully.
His face seems to fit the type of person he is--all sharp angles, with high cheekbones and a thin nose. His skin is pale, typical for being born in the far North, but it can cause some problems in Igen's warmer spring and summer. R'sam's short, straight hair is a light red color. His eyes are the only dark thing about him, a deep chocolate brown.
Personality: R'sam is a serious, serious man. He loves nothing more than his studies and he is extremely dedicated to the Craft. He can spend hours looking over records without coming up for air, even forgetting to eat and often staying up long past his bedtime. He likes everything to be organized just like his records room and he is a bit of a neat freak, looking down on anyone who appears sloppy. R'sam can be a touch judgmental and he has a difficult time getting along with people who have a different outlook. You can imagine that teaching the Lost folks about Pern is going to be rather trying on him.
With his friends, he is loyal but still a touch distant. It takes a lot to get him to loosen up and really trust someone. He is not always intentionally cold, but he can come off as arrogant to those who don't know him well. R'sam is especially uncertain about romance, and the one relationship he had wasn't really ideal.
His fanciful side does show in his love of stories. R'sam enjoys hearing about people that have lived in the past, or just tall tales. He also enjoys music, even though he doesn't specialize in that. He has a good voice but prefers listening. R'sam is also secretly a good dancer, but it takes some convincing to get him onto the dance floor!
History: Rissam was born in Crom Hold to a pair of lowly miners, Samira and Ristal. He was their first child, and was followed by three sisters each two turns apart. Most of what he remembers of his childhood are the cold winters. It was complete luck that he was born with a talent for singing. The boy quickly outgrew his lessons with the local Hold Harper. Arrangements were made for him to move to the main Harper Hall.
Rissam's clear, high voice made him an instant star at the Hall. Within a turn, he had transformed into an unrefined miner boy to an intelligent, sure of himself Harper apprentice. He wasn't always the most popular with the other apprentices, because of jealousy and competition, but he did gain a few close friends. He decided that he would never go home, and cut himself off from Crom.
Even though he was prized for his singing, what he really loved was hearing old stories about Pern and he spent hours in the dusty records room. That was what saved him when his voice broke and he could no longer take the soprano roles. Rissam decided to specialize in the less musical parts of the craft. During his teen years he was very studious and he was a bit on the edge of the other apprentices' social circles, except for a couple of near and dear friends. He did have one more serious relationship, with a young woman named Elira. However, it was mostly a friendship with physical aspects, which Rissam regarded almost as for the sake of research. When Elira walked the tables, she was assigned to Telgar Hold and they fell out of touch. R'sam still wonders if "true love" is even real.
He was eighteen when he was Searched. Before, he would never have abandoned the Hall, but heartbreak made him foolhardy, and he came along to Igen Weyr. He Impressed Tourrauth at a small Green clutch, with only three other eggs.
Of course, R'sam devoted himself to his training. He really hasn't stopped working since, always attentive to his duties as a rider. He remained close to his clutchmates, who are probably still his best friends.
Tourrauth
Dragon
Age: 19
Color: Green
Sex: male
Appearance:
Full-size Image
Light-boned and small for his color. His features are somewhat elongated, and the way he holds himself makes that look elegant and intentional rather then strange. He looks delicate. He's slim and will have trouble putting on weight. His hide is primarily a dark green, but with swirls and slashes of a pale green, almost like flames. His legs are striped with an almost black shade.
Personality: If he was in a Terran high school, Tourrauth would be a "theater kid." He is cultured and intelligent, and he has a love for performance, whether by himself or others. He can be quite vain and showy. He loves attention, and thrives on praise. He also loves getting positive attention for his rider, and sometimes pushes R'sam to be more outgoing about his talents.
Tourrauth can be surprisingly perceptive of others needs. He is good at reading emotions, and generally decides to leave people alone if they seem unfriendly. However, he's fine with pulling someone out of their shell if they seem up for it. He can talk for hours and "shy" is not a word in his vocabulary.
Tourrauth gets bored easily, and he seems to have an endless supply of energy. He always needs something to occupy him, either mind or body. He loves to fly, even more than the average dragon, and often takes to flying laps around the 'bowl when R'sam is busy with his studies. Tourrauth does give R'sam his alone time, but only to a point--he won't let his rider tire himself out too much.
