[Caltori]
Age: 42
Gender: Lady
Rank: Wingleader
Appearance:
Caltori is a tall woman at six feet tall, built from turns fighting thread and caring for her dragon. She is dark skinned, with black hair that she keeps cut short and just below her ears. Her eyes are dark brown. She is naturally slender, but her turns of work have left her muscular and quite capable of caring for her dragon and hauling around the sacks of firestone that are needed for threadfall.
Caltori is sharp featured, with a long nose and prominent cheek bones. She wears make up when not due to drill or fight thread, though she only wears the barest hints such as lipstick or a slight bit of color for her cheeks. Life as a wingleader doesn't afford many chances to look nice, but Caltori grabs them when she can.
Caltori has fought thread for as long as it has been falling, and it shows. Her left hand is badly seared, somewhat impeded in its movement and missing the pointer finger. Another, larger threadscar falls across her right shoulder. Luckily, she lost no movement and merely has a nice scar to scare weyrlings with.
Outside of her drills, Caltori dresses casually. She likes wearing colorful clothing, often tying little scraps of fabric into her short hair or onto her pants. She looks ridiculous and is not embarrassed at all.
Personality:
Caltori likes to have fun. She has learned that constantly focusing on work will just send you Between early, and so she's learned to balance work with play. Boy does she balance it. Caltori likes parties, and if there's a chance for one she'll probably organize a little get together for the wing. She likes to flirt, too, and sees nothing wrong with having a bit of fun with a pretty lady or gentleman. She dislikes overly formal situations, and often requests that others call her 'Cally' instead of Caltori. What's the point of having a wing if you can't be friends with your riders? Caltori thinks that's dumb.
Caltori likes when things look nice. She loves bright, colorful things and her weyr is full of scraps of fabric begged from the tailors or flowers when she can find them. She loves to tie her fabric scraps to Teresth's riding straps, in part because it annoys the brown. Despite her love of color and often wild personality, Caltori thrives in organized areas and keeps her things nice and neat. She often puts little labels on her things so she can remember what they're used for.
Caltori is a bit fussy. She worries about others frequently and can even be over baring in her attempts to help. She loves to dish out advice, even if she doesn't really know what she's talking about. She has a special place in her heart for children in particular, though her decision to become wingleader means that she doesn't have the time to raise a child. Instead, she likes to spend time with weyrlings. She can often be found around the weyrling barracks, scoping out possible recruits for her wing. She also likes scaring weyrlings with her scars. She is slightly overprotective of her wingriders, particularly those just entering the wing.
Caltori is an adrenaline junkie. She looks forward to threadfall and takes a great deal of thrill in the dizzying heights that she and Teresth fly at. Caltori is brave, but she knows when it's time to call the wing back or give Teresth a break. She likes the thrill, that doesn't mean she likes pain! Caltori is very big on keeping her wing safe, even if it means things can be a bit boring.
Caltori isn't a particularly smart woman. She doesn't know many things about the world outside of the Weyr, and she never learned a craft. Despite this, she is cunning and thinks well on her feet. She is excellent at making snappy decisions in the middle of fall, and thinks clearly when in danger. Despite this, she can be a bit naive in her dealings with other people. She believes the best of her wingmates, and often needs Teresth's near hatred of strangers to balance out her overly accepting ways.
Despite her skills as a wingleader and her love of being around others, Caltori has commitment issues. Her wing is fine, as she has dedicated her life to them. But outside of her duties as a wingleader? Caltori doesn't want a firelizard or a romantic partner. A child would be nice, but the thought of actually raising one fills her with both joy and dread. Part of her commitment fears are that she believes she has no time for such things, as she has dedicated her entire life to being a wingleader and fighting thread. Besides, she could die any day. She would be leaving someone who loved her alone.
Caltori loves to joke and laugh. She particularly loves poking fun at her poor dragon, who often misses out on her teasing. she prefers to face the world with a laugh and a smile, as she firmly believes that being positive is the best way to deal with stress. Caltori especially loves terrible puns. They will crack her up. No, seriously. She's a terrible person like that.
History:
Caltori's early life was nothing of note. Born in Igen, her father was a greenrider named C'tarik and her mother was a brownrider named Naori. Her life revolved around her foster mother Unigoli, with frequent visits from her doting mother who often brought gifts or promised rides on the back of her brown. Caltori never really wanted for anything growing up, and quickly lost herself in the crowds of children that lived in the Weyr.
Caltori never really settled into a craft. She had the creativity for the harpers but not the voice, the talent for weaving but not the drive. She couldn't bare to form a commitment to one craft, and she quickly grew too old for any. At fourteen, Caltori became a candidate and her problems with relationships only grew.
She lost friends quickly to Impression, and at sixteen she began dating. Her relationships were quick, broken either by Impression or her own refusal to commit. None lasted more then a few months, and one was notably for lasting only a single seven-day. She began to treat relationships more as a game them a commitment, bouncing between them quickly and leaving a few angry exes and broken hearts in her wake.
At nineteen, she began to seriously consider dropping out of candidacy. However, she feared what would happen to her after wards. She had no real job skills, and she had alienated many of her friends with her wishy-washy ways. At twenty, in the last clutch she planned to stand for, a brown smashed through her egg and announced herself with a squeaky roar.
The brown mauled one of the other candidates in a mixture of clumsiness and a childish temper tantrum before literally tackling Caltori. Teresth announced herself with a [Stop being so stupid! Teresth is here now!] and Caltori's fate was sealed by an angry little meat brick of a brown.
The small clutch of three had been laid by a blue, and Caltori practically flew through Weyrlinghood with the terrifyingly intense Teresth. Teresth excelled at her tests, even though her size meant she was a bit behind on flying then her green sisters. Teresth refused to let Caltori skip either, and Caltori began to do just as well in lessons as her dragon.
At graduation, they were assigned to the wing of a bronzerider. Teresth clashed with the leading bronze, arguing that he was far too stupid to lead a wing. Caltori distrusted the wingleader as well, which caused some tension in the wing. They were transferred to another wing when Caltori turned twenty five, and did much better under the reign of the bluerider who led their new wing.
Caltori hadn't given up on her romantic ways, and shortly after they were transferred found herself with child. Before they could decide what would be done with the child, Teresth pulled a muscle during a drill and the pair were grounded for a time. Caltori decided to have the child, who turned out to be a girl.
She named her Arotori and quickly arranged for her to be fostered. Her relationship with her daughter was distant if loving, as Caltori couldn't bring herself to be anything other then an 'aunt' to her daughter. Teresth rejoined her wing after this, and swiftly began to work her way up the ranks.
At thirty, they were elected as wingseconds. Teresth preened, proud of her abilities as a leader. Caltori threw herself into being a good wingsecond. Life continued as normal, until the first fall that Caltori flew. One of Teresth's clutchmates, also in the wing, Betweened. Caltori herself took a bad score and lost one of her fingers and some of the movement in her hands. She was grounded for a small amount of time.
At thirty four, the wingleader retired. Caltori became the wingleader in his place, much to Teresth's smug delight. The pair worked together to be the best wingleaders they could be.
When the question of sterilizing clutching greens and blues was brought up, Teresth was outraged. The brown quickly dragged Caltori with her to protest, remembering her remaining green sibling and the fact she herself had been born in a green clutch. When the motion was rejected, Caltori threw a party for her wing.
Life continued as normal for the pair, fighting thread and doing their best to keep the wing in fighting shape.

At thirty five meters long, Teresth is a massive example of her color. Teresth is a beast of a brown, with broad shoulders and the massive wings it takes to lift a dragon of her weight into the air. She is muscular, with tree-trunk legs and a thick neck. She is made to fly for hours and hit hard, and while she isn't particularly fast and lacks in agility she is an excellent thread-fighter thanks to her endurance. Her short legs make her a bit stout, and she's somewhat awkward on the ground and a lumbering beast in the air.
Teresth is tawny, the coloration of her hide broken only by the chocolate dapples which are unevenly spread along her back and wings. These dapples condense into spots on her shoulders, neck and head, and the tip of her tail is the same chocolate as these marks. She is covered in many old thread scars, the most notable having taken several of her neck ridges and left her with a large scar that almost reaches her shoulders. Another notable scar is on her back left leg, where she is also missing one of her toes.
Teresth's head is broad and somewhat bulky, even compared to the rest of her. Her muzzle is wide and long, with a heavy jaw. She has developed, heavy eyeridges that are slightly darker then the rest of her face. Her eyes are somewhat sunken, giving her a constantly tired look. With her age, she is beginning to gray just a bit at the end of her muzzle.
Personality:
Teresth was, in her own mind, born to lead. She expects the best and only the best out of her wing, drilling them harshly and refusing to accept incompetence or laziness. She is nearly obsessed with her duty and responsibility as a wingleader, and without Caltori to force her to relax she would likely work herself into an early grave. She is protective over her wing, disliking the concept of other dragons attempting to order them around or bully them. They're her riders and dragons, shard it all! She is a bit of a mother hen in her own way, gruffly instructing them to take care of themselves and fretting to herself when she thinks no one is looking. Caltori can get in trouble, however, and Teresth would probably just laugh at her unless her life was in danger.
Teresth has a bit of a temper, and her patience is infamously short. She has no time to spend waiting on idiots and clowns, and she leaves these to her rider to deal with. Teresth is here to get things done, and she isn't going to wait for the rest of the world to catch up with her. She is distrusting and somewhat antagonistic to strangers, though she is accepting enough to those within her wing. She won't trust those that come out of the desert easily, though she will warm up quicker to the younger Lost.
Teresth doesn't get jokes at all. She handles sarcasm quite well and dishes it out just as much as she gets it, if not more, but most humor is beyond her grasp. She may believe someone who is teasing her is serious, or that a silly joke means that the joker is a bit lacking in the intelligence department. Because of this, she is often frustrated with her silly rider and her jabs. When Teresth tries to make her own jokes, she has a bad tendency to over-explain the joke or to just be flat out terrible at it.
Despite her multitude of flaws, Teresth is a surprisingly good friend and confidant. She will listen to others secrets and not pass a word of judgment, and take those secrets to Between. She also has a love of giving out advice to her wingriders or trying to give comfort, even if that comfort is just 'I'll kill that dragon for breaking your heart'. She wouldn't really do it, but she's quite convinced that promising to kill enemies is a comforting gesture.
Her relationship with Caltori is antagonistic on the surface, and it's easy to be confused by how the two ended up together. However, Teresth desperately needs her rider to balance out her intensity. Teresth does her best to keep Caltori in line as well, reassuring her about things that seem like they're 'too much'. Teresth fiercely loves her rider, and while she has trouble showing it she is confident that Caltori realizes this.
