B'nal (Benzenal)
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Rank: Weyrlingmaster, Dragonrider
Appearance:
B'nal is tall, like... really really tall even for a Pernese. He stands at 6'5" and has a rugged, buff look to him. He's gruff, and often times has been described as scary by his younger sisters when they would see him coming in when it was dark outside. It's easy to see that he's been weather worn as well by his leathery looking skin, calloused hands, and the permanent tan he seems to have going for him. But his face falls naturally into a warm and welcoming smile, one could go so far as to say that he always has a smile. If it's not on his mouth, it's in his eyes.
His eyes are a warm green color, easily comparable to the leaves of the trees down south. He's often joked with his siblings that they're his best attribute, as they always seem to have a spark to them that alerts people to the fact he's a perpetually happy person. As if the laugh lines lining his eyes and mouth weren't enough to tell as person. He also sports dark brown hair, dark enough that it could be called black but he calls it brown. It's unruly and curls however it wishes, not that he does much to tame the mop. He just keeps it cut and washed, and after that doesn't care. Following his hair, he also has a beard that could almost be described as scruffy. It's usually longer than it ought to be, but he claims it keeps his face warm when he's flying. Nestled inside this beard is the start of grey hairs and white patches, proving that he is getting up there in age but he's determined to make the most of his life.
He finds it better to wear casual clothes, pants and tunics, until he has to go anywhere or do anything. He never was a fan of stuffy clothing or riding leathers, but he works with what he has. B'nal also finds it more comfortable to wear his old, almost worn out boots, versus the new ones his family keeps sending him. He just doesn't like breaking them in.
Personality:
B'nal is quite possibly one of the friendlist people that anyone could get to know. He's quick to laugh, quick to smile, and just as quick to make sure that everyone is having a grand ol' time. And despite how gruff he can look at times - like when he's teaching Weyrlings - he's actually a ginormous puppy. He wants to get to know anyone and everyone he can, and he won't hesitate to try and ask people about their lives and things they like or don't like.
He's calm and steady in almost any situations - except with babies, he adores babies and will coddle them to no end - and he trusts people quite easily. He's determined to see the good in everyone, and doesn't let anything change his mind. Unless he's betrayed in some manner. He doesn't trust anyone that's betrayed him, or slights him in some manner. He will be civil, but only to a point. He will make it very clear that he does not approve, but he'll do it in his own, blunt fashion. He never was the most... elegant of talkers.
On the other hand, he absolutely adores his family and close friends. He would do anything for them, and he does his best to make it to any event they have. Especially birthing day parties, he loves to spoil his younger siblings and he enjoys watching them as they climb all over Moirath. 21 years with the Blue and they still love her. Being the middle child has left no tarnish on him from lack of attention, he always looked after the ones younger than him.
Despite his doting and loving nature, he does take his job as Weyrling Master very seriously. He worked long and hard to get the position, and he is determined to make sure that every weyrling gets through training. Of course he has lost some in groups during the between lesson, and he always takes it hard. Perhaps, sometimes, harder than most. He takes it on as his duty to inform the families of the loss, and he then goes to work out better ways of teaching to ensure that every weyrling pair makes it through unscathed... well, mostly unscathed.
History:
Benzenal was born in a small hold under Keroon and was not the last one to be born to his large family. He's the middle child, literally the middle child, in his family of 11 with eight siblings. His parents rose herdbeasts and runners, and as such most of the family was very good with animals. His oldest brother, Rezen (45 turns), moved out to study tannercraft, and is presently a journeyman in the craft. It means discounted leathers for B'nal, so he's always happy to lend Rezen a hand. His oldest sister, Raina (44 turns) became a harper, and drops around occasionally to teach the younger ones the new songs. Miera, his second oldest sisters, opted to stay with the family and take care of animals like their parents.
His second oldest brother, P'zen (39 turns), was actually the one who inspired him to be a dragon rider and agree to a Search. His brother was Searched when B'nal was 10, and as he had always looked up to P'zen (then Parzen) he decided that he wouldn't mind being a dragon rider either, even if he was really good with the animals at his hold. He remembered watching as his brother impressed to a green, and the delight in his brother's eyes as he led the small creature off the sands at Igen while declaring her name was Kaitlith.
During the following three years he remained at home, B'nal worked with the animals and witnessed the birth of his youngest brother, Barail, and oldest younger sister, Kailin, whom were twins. He was thrilled to have someone else to watch, and he took it as a duty to help Miera with the children while he wasn't busy with chores around the hold.
At thirteen turns he was Searched and taken to Igen to stand. He was thrilled about it, even if he was a little sad to leave behind the twins. But when he got there, he was greeted by P'zen and forgot about home for the time being as he was thrust into the life of a candidate. For two years he walked away from the Sands with no lifemate, but he didn't give up hope and instead took to helping P'zen with his dragon.
It was a few months after his 15th birthing day when he found himself standing on the sands once again for a clutch. He'd noticed the little blue hatchling as soon as she'd climbed out of her egg, but he'd been distracted by the chaos going on around him from the other eggs. It wasn't until he was laying on his back with the lady blue sitting on his chest he realized that the voice in his head was actually from the creeling dragonet in front of him. She repeated, quite ernestly, that she was starving, her name was Moirath, and he was going to feed her and she needed her back to be scratched before she rolled around in the sand and got it all over herself.
If he was to be completely honest, he doesn't remember the first couple of weeks when he first became a weyrling. He just remembers a lot of oiling and bathing and feeding and trying to keep her from messing with the other weyrling pairs. Most of his lessons were a blur up until they finally had their first flight together. The feeling of being in the air and having it rush past him that first, and dreadfully short, time was the most exhilarating feeling he could ever remember.
Everything was going perfectly in the training until his weyrling group got to the lesson on betweening. Two of his classmates didn't make it, and he took it really hard because one of his closest weyrling friends was the first to disappear into between forever. But with help from Moirath, he perked back up and kept going to complete his training.
The next big memory he has is flying thread for the first time. It was the most terrifying moment of his life that he could recall, as he barely escaped a horrible threadscore by blinking into between at the last second. He'd been thoroughly scolded by his wingleader for being reckless and not seeing the strand, and he took the punishment to heart. He was much more careful after that, to Moirath's chagrin, and took care to get the manouevers right and keep Moirath out of harm.
Then there was the first time he experienced first hand flight lust from Moirath. That was a memory he could never forget as he had no idea what he was doing. Since then he's endured plenty of flights with her, and he's gotten a pretty good handle on it.
By the time Moirath was 8, B'nal realized that he wanted to be the weyrling master at some point. He strived to meet his goal, working long and hard and watching the current master do their job. His hard worked paid off in the end, as at 32 turns, he was promoted to Weyrling Master and took over for his old master. Since then he's spent his life training weyrlings, taking care of Moirath, and simply living.
It was while Moirath was 8, and he 23, that his parents had their last set of children. The twin girls had come as a complete surprise to the whole family, but their birth was just as celebrated. He made sure to get there for their birthing, and hung around whenever he could while also climbing the ranks to be weyrlingmaster. He quickly learned that the little girls adored Moirath, and he could only hope that there were more dragonriders in his family with these two. Or perhaps a Wherhandler, as one of the twins was becoming quite the night owl. But he knew that whatever path they would go on, they would enjoy it.
Now with everything that was happening at Igen, he has a feeling life is going to get a lot more interesting.
Moirath
{Dragon}
Age: 21
Color: Blue
Sex: Female
{Fighter}
Appearance:
Moirath is small for a blue, closer in size to a green than a blue. But what she lacks in length she makes up for in wingspan with her abnormally large wings. They are thin and tapered though, making them easier to manouver in flight and helping her be as quick as she can for a blue. Those wings are made up with thin wingsails, almost transparent with their light blue coloration, and strong muscles. These muscles continue all throughout her body, giving away her fighting instinct that stopped her from being a mother.
Now in her complete color, she started as a dark, almost midnight blue. Then it seems that the creator of dragons took a paintbrush, some white paint, and swirled it with the dark blue of her hide. It created swirls of lighter colors and spots where she's such a light blue it's hard to tell that she isn't part white. But there is a small nick on her cheek, a white threadscore from when her and B'nal almost didn't make it in time.
Personality:
This lady blue is a trickster at heart, and she pries into other people's business, but she really is a good dragon at heart. At least she likes to think so. She never means people any harm, but she does enjoy playing the occasional prank now and again. Usually they end in laughter and good feelings all around, which make her feel like an accomplished little lady. She likes to get people together and meeting each other, and is a lot like her 'rider in that sense.
Like her 'rider, she is also extremely loyal and trusts those that are good to B'nal. However, she often has to point out to B'nal that some people aren't as good as they seem and that they may hurt him. (He likes to ignore her on this part.) And despite her loyalty, she's flighty with her own relationships. She never lets the same dragon fly her twice, and she often doesn't let other dragons get too close to her. She has a few dragon friends, but those few are the only ones she particularly enjoys being around. Other than little ones. Like her rider she adores little ones, like baby dragons and little children. That's probably why she's okay with helping the young dragons during their lessons.
Moirath is finicky, clean to perfection and so that she glows. She may be a fighter, and know how to get down and dirty, but she enjoys her cleanliness. So much so that she often drags her 'rider out of bed just so that he'll wash her and give her a good oiling before lessons start or they do anything for the day. Even in the cold of winter.
But when it is time to be serious, the trickster dragon settles down and does her job. After too many close calls in threadfall, she knows to be serious and focused when she needs to be. She is a fighter at heart after all, and she'll do her job until the day she dies, which includes protecting her 'rider from anything and everything that could harm him.
